The HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Regulations place stringent requirements on practitioners to protect the privacy of patients. All Participants must complete training prior to beginning the Experience at the assigned Supervised Practice Site and provide the ISPP Coordinator with a copy of the Supervised Practice Site’s proof of completion of HIPAA training. If the Facility does not offer HIPAA training, the Participant must contact the ISPP Coordinator prior to the beginning of the Experience to make alternative training arrangements.
Always follow these minimum guidelines:
- Maintain confidentiality concerning all patient information by removing all identifiers.
- Restrict the use and/or disclosure of information, even though permitted, to the minimum necessary to accomplish the intended educational purpose.
Participant shall sign the ISPP Confidentiality Agreement and provide proof of HIPAA training as a condition of participation in the ISPP.
Participants must report any potential HIPAA violation, including lost phone or computer equipment, to the Supervised Practice Site as required by the Site’s HIPAA policy. Participants should inform the ISPP Coordinator when they make such a report to document compliance with the Supervised Practice Site’s policy.
